Interview with MGray of AISB
AISB recently underwent an extensive Accreditation procedure. How did it go?
Yes, we are delighted to have received full accreditation from the council of international schools this June. the thorough review process involved all school stakeholders and took over a year to complete. We received high accolades in many areas of teaching, student and parent satisfaction, curriculum, facilities management and faculty dedication. This confirmed our direction as a leading world school and we are very proud of these results.
We’ve heard great things about recent improvements to your Early Childhood program. What makes AISB a great place to be for the very youngest of students?
Our early childhood program was the focus of significant development last year, as we adapted the learning environment towards natural learning spaces, inspired by Reggio Emilia and Montessori philosophies. Contemporary research shows the environment as the ’third teacher’ – following parents and teachers – which can greatly impact and benefit children’s inner balance, calm, exploratory and inquisitive natures. Our children spend time in various outdoor play and exploration zones, and take regular exploratory walks in the beautiful nature around the school and in neighbouring forests. We focus on authentic and meaningful play experiences that provide a healthy challenge and encourage independent learning, choice and autonomy aligned to each child’s individual interests. early childhood at AISB is a very nurturing and exciting place to be.
What would you say are the greatest strengths of the AISB program at other levels of the school?
The main strengths are our excellent faculty, our focus on academic study, and our world-class campus. We select our faculty from a pool of the highest quality teachers engaged in international education. AISB is a fantastic place to work and it is a huge privilege to be part of such a leading educational environment.
Our academic program is aligned with the most evolved and progressive international and american pedagogy, and is constantly reviewed in line with latest education standards and developments. we have Directors of teaching and learning for all divisions who ensure that the threads of critical thinking, creativity and inquiry are knitted throughout school learning and life.
Our world-class facilities enable an extensive sports and extra-curricular program. Our non-pro t status and elected board of trustees allows AISB to re-allocate school funds back into the school and ensure stability and growth to immediately support our students. We have talented and well-qualified support staff who ensure that all students are supported individually to achieve optimum growth. We are a truly international community and maintain nationality caps so that children truly develop as global citizens exposed to significant intercultural experiences. Our graduates progress to a wide range of leading academic and specialised universities throughout the world, with a majority heading to the US and UK.
Active8 Budapest is all about keeping active in Mind, Body & Spirit. What does AISB do to foster these lifestyle habits in the students?
AISB takes the mind, body & spirit balance into the core of its being. Prime element of our mission statement is the development of the ‘whole child’. we offer a rich selection of curriculum-based sports and outdoor activities alongside a rigid academic program. Awareness is taken of the social and emotional wellbeing of each child, with support provided by qualified counselors who ensure children develop healthy relationships to achieve optimal potential and happiness. You can see this rich diversity of activities as soon as you are up close to our magnificent facilities; everyone is warmly welcome to come and take a look!
AISB prides itself on involving its students in the broader community; can you highlight some ways in which the school achieves this?
We place great importance on service learning at AISB, where students identify genuine needs in the local community and wider world. Our children from ma through Grade 12 take part in an ongoing rich variety of service activities including: forest clean-up days, dog shelter visits, support of orphanages in Budapest and Romania, blind school, Senegal school building, Habitat for Humanity and soup kitchens in Budapest. The reward and growth to the students’ character, sense of belonging and giving mentalities make this an intrinsic part of who we are.
Is there anything else you would like to highlight about what makes AISB a fantastic place to be?
There is so much more and I believe that we are a real ‘gem’ of a school. AISB is well established, financially secure, and provides a world-class education and opportunities for students to thrive. One of the “best schools in the world” is a quote from a leading global schools expert who visited recently. I think a visit can bring my words to reality, so please do come and see us!
